Problem Statement
Indian city buses face chronic overcrowding and unpredictable waits, since passengers and authorities lack real-time crowd and arrival data — with displays limited to a few major stops and systems remaining visual-only, excluding hearing- and visually-impaired riders. This leaves commuters, especially seniors and people with disabilities, boarding overfull buses or waiting without any reliable information.
Solution
Fixing sensors on the entrance of the bus and displays the timings of the bus with the number of spaces available
In Detail
**Proposed Solution:** Install door-mounted sensors on buses to count passengers entering/exiting and calculate real-time occupancy, which is displayed both inside the bus and at upcoming stops so waiting passengers know how crowded it is before boarding. At each bus stop, a dashboard shows live bus arrival times for senior citizens and other riders to check at a glance. To ensure accessibility, the same information is delivered through both a visual display and an audio speaker — so deaf passengers can read it and blind/visually-impaired passengers can hear it announced.
