Pill Proof

Problem Statement

Counterfeit medicines are a serious public health threat because they can closely resemble genuine products in packaging, labels, colour, shape, and branding, making them difficult to identify. They may contain incorrect, unauthorized, ineffective, or insufficient ingredients, causing treatment failure, delayed care, or health complications. An accessible technology-based system is therefore needed to verify medicines and warn users about suspicious products. Improper medication intake is another concern. People may take extra doses when relief is not immediate, ignoring recommended dosage, frequency, or safe intervals. Excessive intake can cause harmful effects and does not ensure faster recovery. The aim of our project is to improve medicine safety through verification and dosage monitoring.

Solution

We propose to create an app which can not only be used to identify counterfeit medicines but also records your daily tablet intake so that it can warn you if your tablet intake gets unhealthy to avoid major health complications.

In Detail

We propose to develop a smart medicine safety application that combines two important features: counterfeit medicine identification and tablet intake monitoring. The aim of the application is to provide consumers with an accessible and user-friendly tool that can help them make safer decisions regarding the medicines they use. The first feature of the application focuses on identifying potentially counterfeit or substandard medicines. Users can enter or scan relevant information from a medicine package, such as its name, batch number, manufacturing details, expiry date, barcode or other available identifiers. The application can compare this information with a verified medicine database and check for inconsistencies or suspicious details. If the information does not match the available records, the application can display a warning and advise the user to verify the medicine with a pharmacist, doctor, or appropriate authority. This feature is intended as an additional verification layer and does not replace laboratory testing or official authentication. The second feature is a tablet intake monitoring system. Users can record the medicines they have been prescribed, along with the recommended dosage and schedule. The application keeps track of the user's recorded daily intake and can provide reminders and alerts when the entered consumption reaches or exceeds the prescribed limit. This can be particularly useful when a person takes multiple medicines or forgets whether they have already taken a dose. Instead of encouraging users to take additional tablets when they do not experience immediate relief, the application can remind them to follow the prescribed schedule and seek professional medical advice when necessary. The application can also maintain a simple history of medication intake, allowing users to review what they have recorded over a period of time. This information could help users become more aware of their medication habits and provide useful information to discuss with a healthcare professional. By combining medicine verification and medication-intake monitoring in one platform, our project addresses two different but connected risks: unknowingly using a potentially counterfeit medicine and unintentionally taking medication beyond the prescribed amount. The proposed system is designed to act as an additional layer of awareness and safety, helping consumers identify potential risks before they lead to serious health complications. Ultimately, our goal is to create a simple, affordable, and accessible technology-based solution that promotes responsible medicine use and empowers consumers with information while keeping professional medical advice at the center of healthcare decisions.
