Problem Statement

Traditional classroom attendance is often recorded manually by teachers, which is time-consuming and can lead to errors especially in large classrooms. It also becomes difficult to quickly verify whether the recorded attendance matches the actual number of students present

Solution

Our solution is to quicken the process of manual attendance by implementing an AI-powered smart attendance system. It uses the college ID barcode to let the students mark their attendance and the AI-system integrated into the class CCTV uses headcount to double-check the attendance to avoid proxy.

In Detail

We propose a cost effective and smart attendance system that uses barcode-based ID cards for quick attendance registration. With an scanner and an ESP32 camera integrated in the PRESYNC device, it can scan the students ID to register their attendance and the camera does the head count. The system also records each student's entry time to identify latecomers and alerts the teacher when discrepancies occur. Manual attendance consumes time; moreover we can avoid possible proxy, especially in colleges which has a larger number of students makes it difficult to mark the attendance manually, and here we are with an innovative idea that makes old traditional attendance much easier. The screen on the device shows the attendance percentage of the student during every Tap-In, helping students to know their attendance percentage, so they can keep track of it. This project helps us to build a smarter and futuristic classroom. PRESYNC is linked with a personalized website where the teacher can modify the device to suit their schedule. Cases: If a student leaves the class with the permission of the teacher, a timer of x minutes begins to countdown, and the student has to return to class within that time, then the student's attendance is marked as 'Not attended full class'. If there is a student leaving during the seminar, the AI-headcount system notices that the initial headcount and the current headcount do not match. It sends a notification to PRESYNC, and the entire class has to Tap-out, the person who left mid-session can be found out.
