Smart Water & Clean Energy for a Sustainable Future

AquaTrack

Problem Statement

There is currently a lack of a simple, continuous, and accessible system for monitoring water flow and deriving reliable water-consumption data, which limits the ability of households, apartment communities, institutions, and researchers to monitor water usage and perform Water Use Efficiency (WUE) analysis. Existing readings may be isolated, difficult to retrieve, or unavailable in a usable time-series format.

Solution

AquaTrack is a real-time water-flow monitoring system that continuously measures flow rate, converts it into cumulative water consumption through time integration, and transmits the data to a centralized database and app/dashboard for easy access, monitoring, and future WUE analysis.

In Detail

There is currently a lack of a simple, continuous, and accessible system for monitoring water flow and deriving reliable water-consumption data, which limits the ability of households, apartment communities, institutions, and researchers to monitor water usage and perform Water Use Efficiency (WUE) analysis. Existing readings may be isolated, difficult to retrieve, or unavailable in AquaTrack addresses the water-use data gap by creating a continuous measurement and data-management layer. A flow sensor installed in an inland pipe or secondary pipe branch continuously measures the rate of water flow. A controller samples and timestamps these measurements, creating a time-series record of water usage. The flow-rate data is then transmitted through a connectivity module to a centralized database, where it is stored for retrieval and analysis. By integrating the measured flow rate over a defined period, the system converts instantaneous flow measurements into cumulative water consumption. This creates a reliable and reusable record of water use rather than relying on isolated readings. An app or dashboard can then present the stored information in an accessible form, allowing users such as apartment supervisors, researchers, agronomists, and project managers to monitor consumption and identify unusual usage patterns. The resulting data pipeline—measure, transmit, store, retrieve, and analyze—provides the foundation for subsequent Water Use Efficiency (WUE) analysis while making water-use information easier to access and reuse.
